Google leaks Nexus Q video and images ahead of I/O keynote

Nexus Q images leak

Speaking of Google-related leaks, we've got another one for you. After a bit of digging, we were able to hunt down some images of the rumored Nexus Q, and it now seems inevitable that we'll be getting some up close and personal time with this particular device after today's keynote session. According to some documents found by Droid-Life, the Nexus Q will have some interaction with YouTube, Google Play Movies, Play Music and TV, and will require the use of a phone or tablet running Gingerbread or higher.

Update: it looks like Google's official video has been found, and the official product page on the Google Play Store has been updated as well. Check it out after the break.

 Rainbow Fruit Kabobs with Cream Cheese Dipping Sauce

June is National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month, so to celebrate I decided to make these festive fruit kabobs with a low-fat cream cheese dipping sauce. These are so easy to make and they?re good for you as well. The dipping sauce has three ingredients and takes just minutes to assemble.

You want to choose fresh, ripe fruit in an assortment of different colors. For this batch of kabobs, I used the following fruit:

Ingredients

  • Strawberries
  • Cantaloupe (I used a melon baller, but you also can cut it in squares)
  • Kiwi (I also used honeydew melon for some of the kabobs)
  • Pineapple
  • Blueberries
  • Red grapes
  • Black grapes

Preparation

Place the cut up fruit in separate bowls for faster assembly. Arrange the fruit on wooden skewers, basically following the order of the colors in a rainbow. What can be easier than that?

Cream Cheese Dipping Sauce

Instead of buying premade fruit dip (available in refrigerated section in the produce aisle of most grocery stores) consider making this low-fat sauce. It goes great with the fruit, especially the strawberries, melon and pineapple.

Ingredients

 Rainbow Fruit Kabobs with Cream Cheese Dipping Sauce

  • 8 oz. container low-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 14 oz. can fat-free sweetened condensed milk
  • Juice from a quarter of a fresh lemon

Preparation

Blend the three ingredients using an electric mixer. Refrigerate for at least three hours before serving.

I served these at Gabe and Lexi?s recent birthday party to help balance the other sugar-laden desserts and the kids loved them! So did the adults! This is a great dish to take to a potluck dinner or brunch.

What to get the homeowner who has everything? Perhaps a robotic vacuum styled in the fashion of an RC toy will fit the bill. Here at a gdgt event in New York City we happened upon iRobot's Roomba 790, which comes with a touchscreen remote for manually controlling where the bot goes. The controller -- make that the "Wireless Command Center" -- has an interface matching the one on the 790 itself, so there's no second set of menus to master here. In addition to deciding where it moves, you can also schedule daily cleanings or tap a "Clean" button to push the robot into action.Though this isn't the first time iRobot's dabbled in remote-controlled vacuum cleaners, previous models tended to rely on infrared sensors, meaning you could only control the Roomba if it was in your line of sight. This guy, though, uses a proprietary technology that allows you to program that 4pm scrubbing from up to 25 meters away.

As for battery life, it runs on four AA cells, and is rated for three to six months of runtime, depending on how compulsively you plan on cleaning. Interestingly, despite the change in wireless standards, the 790 is compatible with older 700-series Roombas, though it's not as is the controller would be sold separately. If you happen to be the kind of fabulously wealthy family who can afford (and has a need) for multiple Roomba cleaners, you can only pair the remote with one robot at a time anyway. Broadcaster Jim Rome and NBA commissioner David Stern are guys who don't back down.

When they get together the conversation can be interesting and a little nasty.

When Rome asked about the conspiracy of the draft lottery, Stern answered by asking Rome when he stopped beating his wife and "shame on you for asking."

When Rome countered that people were interested in the conspiracy Stern said he doesn't get asked that question by "respectable journalists" and that Rome got a "cheap thrill" asking the question.

Four new gene loci predisposing people to the most common subtype of migraine

ScienceDaily (June 10, 2012) ? An international research group from several European countries and Australia has identified four new gene loci predisposing people to the most common subtype of migraine, migraine without aura. About 2/3 of migraine sufferers belong to this group.

Researchers studied genetic data of more than 11,000 people and found altogether six genes that predispose to migraine without aura. Four of these genes are new and two of them confirm previous findings.

The new genes identified in this study provide further evidence for the hypothesis that dysregulation of molecules important in transmitting signals between brain neurons contribute to migraine. Two of the genes support the hypothesis of a possible role of blood vessels and thus disturbances in blood flow.

The researchers carried out what is known as a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to zoom in on genome variants that could increase susceptibility to migraine; they compared genomes of 4800 migraine patients with more than 7000 non-migraine individuals.

The project was performed by the International Headache Genetics Consortium consisting of leading migraine researches from Europe and Australia.

This was the third report on genes predisposing people to common forms of migraine, but the first one on the most common migraine subtype. "The study establishes for the first time a specific gene that contributes to this common disease" said Professor Aarno Palotie at FIMM and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, the chair of the International Headache Genetics Consortium. The carefully studied migraine patients collected from specialized headache clinics were provided a strong basis for the success of this study.

Migraine affects approximately one in six women and one in eight men, making it a leading cause of work absence and short-term incapacity: 25 million school or work days are lost for migraine each year. A US report measures its economic costs as similar to those of diabetes and WHO lists it as one of the top twenty diseases with the causes of years lived with disability (YLDs). In up to one third of migraine patients, the headache phase may be preceded or accompanied by transient neurological disturbances, the so-called aura (i.e. migraine with aura), while the majority of patients suffer from migraine without aura.

"Studies of this kind are possible only through large-scale international collaboration -- bringing together the wealth of data with the right expertise and resources. The identified genes open new doors to investigate how this type of migraine comes about," said Dr. Arn van den Maagdenberg, one of the senior authors on the paper.
