The South-Central and Eastern US will see widespread areas of wet weather on Wednesday, while the Western US will continue to be sunny and dry. A low pressure system positioned over the Southern Plains will push a frontal boundary through the region and Lower Mississippi Valley triggering heavy showers and possible severe thunderstorms. Flash flooding is possible over the northern Lower Mississippi Valley due to previous heavy rainfall in the area.
To the east, low pressure will move out of the Ohio Valley to the Northeast bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms. The rotation of this system will pull low level moisture from the south, aiding in the development of additional storms. In addition, this system will push a cold front through the New England states bringing below average temperatures.
Meanwhile, high pressure will settle into the Upper Midwest contributing to sunny and dry conditions across the Northern Plains to the Great Lakes.
To the west, dry and fair conditions will persist across the Western US. High pressure located over the Great Basin will produce dry weather extending from northern Arizona to parts of the Northern Rockies. Meanwhile, low pressure spinning over Washington will push scattered showers and thunderstorms to parts of the northwestern corner of the nation. In addition, monsoon moisture will kick up isolated showers over southern New Mexico and southern Arizona. Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday have ranged from a morning low of 32 degrees at Angel Fire, N.M. to a high of 108 degrees at Wichita Falls, Texas
