Open A Hosting Account

Setup Your Name Servers

Some people refer to this as pointing your domain to your web host.
Install Or Upload Your Site to Your Web Host
At this stage you have several options. Depending on your hosting package, you may have the option to install an established Content Management Systems (CMS), or you may just have an FTP username and password (FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol), which you would use to upload your site?s files to your web host.
If your web host provides you with an option to install an existing CMS, you will want to configure and customize that CMS after it is installed. While that will vary depending on the CMS installed, you generally need to set your site?s name and enter your content in an area labeled posts or pages. You may also want to upload customized images for your website using the CMS interface.
If you choose to upload your site with FTP, you can either hand-code your website if you know HTML, or you can use a WYSIWYG (What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get) editor. With a WYSIWYG editor, you use a desktop application to design the appearance and functionality of your site much like you would draw in applications like Photoshop or Paint. Then you use your FTP username and password to upload the files created by the WYSIWYG editor to your web host.
View and Test Your Website
After you have configured your CMS or uploaded your site files with FTP, you will want to enter your website address into your web browser to view and test your new website. Make sure it looks how you want it to look and test different pages and different links to make sure they work.
As you learn how to make a website, you will discover how each of these steps can be expanded upon, but these basic steps should still give you a good overview and get you well on your way.
